DEC to Host August 11 Open House at Onondaga Lake Visitor Center
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced an open house for community members to learn more about the far-reaching scope of DEC’s programs throughout the Central New York region. The public is invited to join DEC staff on Tuesday, August 11, from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the Onondaga Lake Visitor Center.
“Come meet your local DEC experts working every day to advance DEC’s broad mission to conserve, protect, and enhance the health, safety, and welfare for all New Yorkers, " said DEC Region 7 Director Dereth Glance. “This informal open house is a chance to check out the view of Onondaga Lake from the visitor center, talk directly with DEC staff, and learn more about DEC programs working to protect our shared environment.”
The open house will feature staff from many of DEC’s programs, including Remediation, Materials Management, Water, Law Enforcement, Fisheries, Wildlife, Public Outreach, Office of Indian Nation Affairs, and Environmental Education. There is no formal agenda; attendees can stop by any time to ask questions and engage with DEC staff.
“This open house is a great opportunity for community members to visit the center,” said Onondaga Lake Visitor Center Director Betsy Ukeritis. “Anyone attending can meet and chat with Environmental Education staff who operate the facility, as well as DEC program staff.”
